Edging up

4000 meters. No wind, not a breath of air. No sound either. Nothing but the mountains and us, our labored steps bringing us ever closer to the summit, inch by inch. Breathe, step, breathe, step. The crunching of the snow loud as thunder in the high altitude silence. Almost there, just one more step!
